About Evotaz

Evotaz is an antiviral drug that combines the effects of cobicistat, which prevents the liver from breaking down certain antiviral medications, and atazanavir, which fights HIV. The presence of cobicistat allows the atazanavir to work at lower doses so it can be administered more safely and effectively. It is often used together with other antiviral medications to provide a complete solution to battling HIV.

Evotaz is administered in tablet form. Patients take Evotaz daily with food. While on a regimen with this drug, your blood may need to be taken and tested often. Kidney and liver function must also be tested to ensure that your body can still fight other diseases. Be sure to follow all instructions given to you by your doctor and provided on the prescription label.

Take the dose that you missed as soon as you remember and are able. If more than 12 hours have passed since the scheduled dose that you missed, skip that missed dose. Take the next dose of medicine at its scheduled time. Never take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

If you suspect an overdose, you will need to seek help as soon as possible. Get to an emergency room or call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.

Before taking Evotaz, tell your doctor if:

· You have heart disease

· You have liver disease (especially hepatitis B or C)

· You have a bleeding or blood clotting disorder such as hemophilia

· You have diabetes

· You have kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis)

Taking Evotaz may lead to some common side effects such as fever, swollen glands, mouth sores, night sweats, diarrhea, stomach pain, weight loss, chest pain, dry cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, cold sores, genital sores, anal sores, rapid heart rate, anxiousness, irritability, weakness, balance problems, eye movement problems, trouble speaking, difficulty swallowing, severe lower back pain, loss of bladder or bowel control, swelling in the neck or throat, menstrual changes, impotence, or loss of interest in sex. Get help from a doctor as soon as possible if you experience severe side effects such as dizziness, fainting, irregular heartbeat, liver problems, high blood sugar, kidney stones, internal inflammation, or severe skin reaction.

Store Evotaz in its original container. Keep the container at room temperature and far away from moisture and heat. Make sure the lid of the bottle is closed tightly when it is not in use.

Take enteric-coated didanosine medications one hour before or two hours after you take Evotaz if they are part of your treatment. Use of this drug will not prevent the passage of HIV to other people. Avoid having unprotected sex or sharing razors or toothbrushes. Talk to your doctor about safe ways to prevent the transmission of HIV during sex. Do not share drugs or needles even if they are from healthy people.

“I have been able to afford and purchase my prescribed medications for prices much better than using my insurance. I am trying to understand how that is possible. Anyway, I highly recommend”
