About Uribel

What is Uribel?

Uribel relieves the painful symptoms of a urinary tract infection, interstitial cystitis, and certain other urinary tract conditions. It contains five active ingredients: methenamine, sodium phosphate monobasic, phenyl salicylate, methylene blue, and hyoscyamine sulfate. It may be used along with an antibiotic medication to treat UTIs.

How do I take Uribel?

Uribel comes as a capsule that is taken orally with plenty of fluids. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully, and do not exceed your prescribed dosage. Talk to your doctor before you stop taking this medication, even if your symptoms begin to improve.

What if I forget to take a dose of Uribel?

If you forget to take a dose of the Uribel medicine, take it as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for the next dose. You should never double the dose, so if it’s almost time for another capsule, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule.

What happens if I overdose on Uribel?

Overdosing on Uribel may result in difficulty breathing, fever, fast heartbeat, dizziness, agitation, or seizures. If you or someone in your household has overdosed on this medication, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If someone in your household has lost consciousness after overdosing, call 911.

Before taking Uribel, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients in the Uribel medicine, or if you have any other known allergies

  • You have a history of heart problems such as cardiac disease, congestive heart failure, or an irregular heartbeat

  • You have glaucoma, gastrointestinal tract obstructive disease, myasthenia gravis, or urinary bladder neck obstructions

  • You have high blood pressure

  • You are intolerant of belladonna alkaloids or salicylates

  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or may become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of taking Uribel?

One common but harmless side effect of the Uribel drug is discolored (bluish-green) urine or stool. This is caused by methylene blue (an antiseptic ingredient) and is not a cause for concern.

Rare but more serious side effects may include a rapid heartbeat, dizziness, blurred vision, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, dry mouth, and difficulty urinating. If you experience any of these side effects, seek medical attention.

How do I store Uribel?

It’s best to keep Uribel in a tightly sealed container at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Keep this medication out of sight and reach of pets and children. If you no longer need this drug, talk to your healthcare provider about how to properly dispose of it.

Warnings

Because Uribel may occasionally cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision, you should avoid driving and operating heavy machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Limit tobacco and alcohol consumption, as interactions with these drugs increase the risk of stomach bleeding. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid activities that may cause you to overheat, as the Uribel drug can increase your risk of heat stroke.

Brand Names

Uribel is a brand name drug. There are currently no generic equivalents, which means the Uribel cost can be somewhat high for patients who do not have the medication fully covered through their insurance. However, keep in mind that you can reduce the retail cost of this brand name drug by as much as 67% when you use a FamilyWize Uribel coupon. Click ‘Claim Discount’ now.
