About Urelle

What is Urelle?

Urelle is a combination of five drugs: hyoscyamine (an antispasmodic), methenamine and methylene blue (antiseptics to fight bacteria), phenyl salicylate (a pain reliever), and sodium biphosphate (a phosphorous supplement). It comes in tablet form and is prescribed to treat bladder irritation arising from urinary tract infections. It may also be administered during certain medical procedures to prevent bladder discomfort.

How do I take Urelle?

Urelle is administered as a tablet that is taken orally with liquids and without regard to food. The amount taken and frequency of dosing will be determined by your physician. Follow the instructions that accompany the prescription and do not take more or less than the prescribed amount. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Urelle. Continue to take this medication until you finish the prescribed course of treatment, even if you feel well before then.

What if I forget to take a dose of Urelle?

If you forget to take your scheduled dose of the Urelle drug, do so as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip it and take the next dose at its scheduled time. Do not increase the amount taken or change the regimen to make up for one that was missed.

What happens if I overdose on Urelle?

If an overdose of Urelle is suspected, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.

Before taking Urelle, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to hyoscyamine, methenamine, methylene blue, phenyl salicylate, sodium bisphosphate, salicylates, belladonna, or any of the ingredients in the Urelle drug

  • You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child

  • You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements

  • You have, or have had, a heart valve disorder, coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, or a disorder affecting heart rhythm

  • You have, or have had, an enlarged prostate or a bladder or bowel obstruction

  • You have glaucoma

  • You have a stomach ulcer

  • You have myasthenia gravis

  • You have Parkinson’s disease

  • You have Alzheimer’s disease

  • You have a personal or family history of mental illness

What are the possible side effects of taking Urelle?

Some people have reported side effects after taking Urelle. Less severe symptoms include dizziness, drowsiness, or flushing. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider. Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include agitation, tachycardia, arrhythmia, blurred vision, disorientation, difficult or painful urination, restlessness, severe dizziness, or shortness of breath.

How do I store Urelle?

Keep Urelle tablets tightly sealed in their original container, out of the reach of children and away from extremes of temperature and humidity. Dispose of any unused or expired medication according to the instructions of your pharmacist.

Warnings

Urelle may make your drowsy or dizzy; do not drive, operate heavy machinery or equipment, use power tools, or handle firearms or explosives until its effects are known. This medication may slow down the body’s ability to absorb of other medications. Your doctor should provide you a list of medications that can interact with Urelle.
