About Sporanox

What is Sporanox?

Sporanox is the drug itraconazole, an antifungal triazole medication prescribed to treat a number of fungal infections including those of the lungs, mouth, throat, and toe and fingernails. It works by inhibiting the fungal growth that causes infections.

How do I take Sporanox?

Sporanox is administered as a capsule or as a liquid suspension. Both are taken orally with food; the capsule may be taken with water. Do not crush, split, break, or chew the Sporanox pills (capsules). The amount taken, the type, and the dosing schedule is determined by the condition being treated. If you are taking certain medications, your doctor may have you take Sporanox with a cola soft drink. Follow the dosing instructions exactly; do not take more or less than the prescribed amount, and take all of the prescribed capsules or liquid. Continue taking this medication even if you feel well; do not stop taking it without medical permission.

What if I forget to take a dose of Sporanox?

If you forget to take your scheduled dose of Sporanox pills or liquid suspension, do so as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip it and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the dosage or change the schedule to make up for one that was missed.

What happens if I overdose on Sporanox?

If an overdose of the Sporanox medicine is suspected, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.
