About Pramosone

What is Pramosone?

Pramosone is a combination of two medications, hydrocortisone and pramoxine, and is prescribed to treat the itching and discomfort that accompanies a number of minor skin conditions including allergic reactions, minor burns, eczema, and insect bites. It is also prescribed to treat the pain and discomfort of hemorrhoids. Hydrocortisone is a steroid that reduces inflammation; pramoxine is an anesthetic that blocks pain signals between nerves and the brain.

How do I take Pramosone?

Pramosone is a topical cream or lotion that is applied to the affected area. Before using, wash and dry your hands and the area being treated. Apply a small amount of the medication to the site and gently massage it in. If using this medication in the rectal area, use the applicator that was supplied. Do not cover the treated area. Wash your hands after applying Pramosone. Stop using this medication and contact your doctor if your condition does not improve, it worsens, or an infection develops.

What if I forget to take a dose of Pramosone?

If you are on a dosing schedule, and you miss one, apply Pramosone as soon as your remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the one missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the amount used or change the regimen to make up for one that was missed.

What happens if I overdose on Pramosone?

Pramosone is for topical application only. If this medication is ingested, contact the Poison Control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.

Before taking Pramosone, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to pramoxine, hydrocortisone, topical anesthetics, or any of the ingredients in the Pramosone drug

  • You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child

  • You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements

  • You are taking cancer chemotherapy agents or medications that weaken the immune system

  • You are using other topical medications

  • You have, or have had, an immune system disorder, diabetes, liver disease, a circulation disorder, a stomach or intestinal disorder, or glaucoma; or

  • You have, or have had, a rectal infection or sore.

What are the possible side effects of taking Pramosone?

Some people have reported side effects after using the Pramosone drug. Less severe symptoms include dry or cracked skin at the application site, acne, itching, burning, a change in skin color, or redness, irritation, swelling, stinging, or pain at the treatment site.

Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (rash, hives, itching, peeling or blistered skin; swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue; difficulty breathing or swallowing), bleeding at the treatment site, hoarseness, severe skin rash or infection, and wheezing.

How do I store Pramosone?

Keep Pramosone tightly sealed in its original container, out of the reach of the reach of children and away from extremes of temperature and humidity. Do not allow the cream or the lotion to freeze. Dispose of any unused medication according to the instructions of your pharmacist.

Pramosone is for topical use only; do not eat or swallow it. Do not allow this medication to come in contact with the eyes. Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while using Pramosone.
