What is nabumetone?

Nabumetone is a non-acidic NSAID. Nabumetone uses include the treatment of pain, tenderness, swelling and stiffness often associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It works by reducing the effects of enzymes that are naturally produced in the body which may cause pain and inflammation associated with arthritis. What are the possible side effects of taking nabumetone?

If, after taking nabumetone, you experience discomfort or have questions about your body’s reaction, you should contact your doctor. Seek emergency medical treatment if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, including hives, difficulty breathing or you see or feel swelling around your face, lips, tongue or throat. You should contact your doctor if you experience chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, problems with your vision or balance, black or bloody stools, if you begin to cough up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds, you experience rapid weight gain, you begin urinating less than usual or not at all, you experience nausea, low fever, loss of appetite, jaundice, sore throat and headache with blistering or red skin rash or you experience severe tingling, numbness or weakness in your muscles.

Other side effects of nabumetone which may subside over time but should be reported to your doctor include upset stomach, mild heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, bloating or gas, dizziness or nervousness, skin itching or rash, blurred vision or ringing in your ears.

How do I store nabumetone?

Store nabumetone in an airtight container at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Protect this medication from light and keep it out of reach of children and pets.

Warnings

Taking nabumetone can increase your risk of life-threatening heart or circulation problems and can include heart attack or stroke. Do not use nabumetone just before or after having heart bypass surgery. Nabumetone can also increase your risk for serious stomach or intestinal effects, including bleeding. These effects can occur at any time while taking nabumetone and can be fatal, particularly if you are an older adult.
