About Lialda

What is Lialda?

Lialda is the brand name of the drug mesalamine, a gastrointestinal agent of the non-aspirin salicylate class. It works as an anti-inflammatory medication, treating the substances that cause inflammation, diarrhea, and tissue damage.

How do I take Lialda?

The Lialda drug is administered in tablet form and is taken orally. The frequency of dosage will depend on the medical profile and needs of the patient. Continue taking Lialda for the duration of the prescription, even if you are feeling well. If you do not have a Lialda savings card, download the reusable Lialda coupon at FamilyWize for a substantial Lialda discount.

What if I forget to take a dose of Lialda?

If you miss your scheduled dose of Lialda, take it as soon as you remember and are able. However, if the time is near for the next dose, skip the one that was missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not take multiple doses of Lialda tablets to make up for the one that was missed.

What happens if I overdose on Lialda?

If an overdose of Lialda is suspected, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the patent has lapsed into unconsciousness or has stopped breathing, contact Emergency Services at 911 for Lialda patient assistance.

Before taking Lialda, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to mesalamine or any of the ingredients in the Lialda tablet

  • You are allergic to any medications, including salicylate medications, olsalazine, balsalazide, or sulfasalazine

  • You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements

  • You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or nursing a child

  • You are taking aluminum or magnesium hydroxide antacids, or calcium-based antacids

  • You are taking NSAIDS, mercaptopurine, or azathioprine

  • You have phenylketonuria

  • You have, or have had, pericarditis or myocarditis

  • You have, or have had, heart, liver, or kidney disease

  • You have, or have had, a gastrointestinal blockage

What are the possible side effects of taking Lialda?

Some patients have reported side effects after taking Lialda. Less severe symptoms include acne, dry mouth, burping, heartburn or gas, loss of appetite, nausea, constipation, vomiting, back, joint, or muscle pain or stiffness, loss of hair (slight), sweating, itching, and dizziness. However, if any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your physician.

Severe side effects requiring immediate Lialda patient assistance include black or tarry stools, bloody vomit, vomiting a substance that looks like coffee grounds, chest pain, shortness of breath, or any swelling of the body.

How do I store Lialda?

Keep Lialda tightly sealed in its original container, away from the extremes of temperature and humidity and out of the reach of children. Contact your pharmacist for instructions on how to safely dispose of any unused or expired doses of this medication.

Lialda may cause a serious reaction, the symptoms of which resemble ulcerative colitis. If you become pregnant while taking Lialda, contact your physician immediately.

“I have been able to afford and purchase my prescribed medications for prices much better than using my insurance. I am trying to understand how that is possible. Anyway, I highly recommend”
