About Dipyridamole

Dipyridamole is an antiplatelet drug. It works by inhibiting the release of a chemical called thromboxane; this action prevents clots from forming in your blood. By preventing blood clots, dipyridamole reduces your risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or pulmonary embolism after getting a heart valve replacement.

Take dipyridamole by mouth as often as your doctor has instructed you to (typically four times per day). Take your medication at the same time every day to make it easier to remember.

Take the forgotten dose as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for your next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Don’t take two doses at once or exceed the recommend daily dosage.

Get medical attention right away if you or someone in your home overdoses on the dipyridamole drug. Signs of an overdose may include sweating, a sudden feeling of warmth, weakness, dizziness, restlessness, or a rapid heart rate.

Before taking dipyridamole, tell your doctor if:

· You are allergic to this or any other medications

· You are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medications

· You have any other heart problems or have had a heart attack

· You have low blood pressure

· You have myasthenia gravis

· You have a liver disease

· You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning a pregnancy

Diarrhea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, and upset stomach are all possible side effects of dipyridamole. Monitor all side effects, and tell your doctor if you have any conditions that last a long time or get worse. Call your doctor immediately if you experience severe stomach pain, jaundice, dark urine, easy bruising or bleeding, or fainting. Get emergency medical attention if you experience chest pain, weakness on one side of the body, slurred speech, vision changes, or confusion, as these may be signs of a heart attack.

Keep dipyridamole in a childproof container at room temperature. Don’t store it in the bathroom, as exposure to light and moisture could change the medication’s composition. If you no longer need to take this drug, ask your pharmacist how to throw it away safely.

Warnings

Because dipyridamole can cause dizziness, you should be careful driving and performing other tasks that require clear focus until you know how the medication affects you.

Brand Names

Dipyridamole is sold as a generic drug and is also available under the brand name Persantine. Regardless of whether your doctor prescribes the generic or brand name form, you can get a FamilyWize coupon that can discount the drug’s price by up to 75%.
