About Cilostazol

Cilostazol is a generic platelet-aggregation inhibitor drug that comes in tablet form and it is prescribed to reduce the symptoms of intermittent claudication, which is a condition that is caused by the narrowing of blood vessels that supply blood to the legs. This drug works by helping to improve the flow of blood to the legs.

Cilostazol comes in tablet form to be taken orally. It is usually prescribed to be taken 2 times per day, before or after meals. Consult with your doctor for specific directions on how to take Cilostazol. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully when taking this medication.

Do not stop taking this medication without first speaking with your doctor. It may take up to 12 weeks to see the full benefits of taking this medication.

Take your missed dose of Cilostazol as soon as your remember to take it, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dose schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

In case of overdose, call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) to find out what to do or seek immediate medical attention.

Symptoms of overdose may include the following:

  • dizziness or severe headache

  • rapid heartbeat

  • fainting

  • diarrhea

Before using Cilostazol, tell your doctor if:

  • you are allergic to Cilostazol or any other medications

  • you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or supplements

  • you have bleeding ulcers or bleeding in the brain

  • you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding

  • you are bleeding from any part of your body

  • you have any condition that causes severe bleeding

  • you have or have ever had kidney, heart, or liver disease

What are the possible side effects of using Cilostazol?

Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms and if they do not go away:

  • headache, nausea, or diarrhea

  • dizziness

  • heartburn, nausea, or stomach pain

  • muscle pain

  • unusual bleeding or bruising

  • rapid heartbeat

  • swelling of the arms, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs

Contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms:

Store this medication tightly closed when not in use. Store it at room temperature and keep away from excess moisture and heat. Keep this medication out of reach of children and away from where pets can access it. Properly dispose of any expired or unnecessary medication.

Warnings

Cilostazol may be fatal to patients with congestive heart failure. Be sure to tell your doctor if you have you have congestive heart failure as your doctor may tell you to avoid taking this medication.

Do not let anyone else take your medication.
