About Cosopt PF

What is Cosopt PF?

Cosopt PF is an eye drop solution containing dorzolamide hydrochloride and timolol maleate. These two medications work together to decrease the amount of fluid in the eyes and reduce eye pressure in people with open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. High pressure in the eyes can lead to blindness if left untreated.

How do I take Cosopt PF?

Always wash your hands before using this medication, and never let the eye dropper tip touch any surfaces. To apply the eye drops, tilt your head back, look up, and pull back your lower eye lid. Gently squeeze one drop into your eye, then look down and close your eye while applying gentle pressure with your fingers for two minutes. Repeat with the other eye, and replace the dropper cap when you are done.

What if I forget to take a dose of Cosopt PF?

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for another dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and continue with your normal dosage schedule.

What happens if I overdose on Cosopt PF?

You are unlikely to overdose on Cosopt PF when applying it as intended to your eyes; however, the medication can be harmful when swallowed. Overdosing can lead to difficulty breathing or a slow or irregular heartbeat. Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 and seek emergency medical attention if you believe you or someone in your household has swallowed this drug.

Before taking Cosopt PF, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to the ingredients in this solution or any other medications

  • You have any severe allergies

  • You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements

  • You have asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

  • You have any heart problems

  • You have a history of liver disease, kidney disease, or kidney stones

  • You have diabetes

  • You have overactive thyroid disease

  • You have any muscle weakness disorders

  • You have low blood flow to the brain

  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of taking Cosopt PF?

Some of the most common side effects of Cosopt PF include temporary eye irritation, temporary blurred vision, sensitivity to light, unusual taste in mouth, or headache. Let your doctor know if any of these side effects persist or worsen. Call your doctor right away if you experience severe dizziness, unusual changes in your mental state, muscle weakness, numbness or pain in your hands or feet, or an irregular heartbeat. Get emergency medical attention if you experience eye or eyelid swelling, difficulty breathing, sudden weight gain, chest pain, weakness one of side of your body, confusion, ongoing eye redness or discharge, or fainting. Serious side effects of Cosopt PF are rare, but it is important to be aware of them before you begin taking this medication.

How do I store Cosopt PF?

Keep Cosopt PF at room temperature, away from light and moisture and out of reach of pets and children. Do not take the single-use Cosopt PF containers out of their packet until you are ready to use them. If you have opened one of the packets but do not use the container, throw the medication out after 15 days. You should also discard this medication if the solution changes colors or becomes murky. Talk to your pharmacist if you are unsure how to safely dispose of prescription drugs.

Warnings

Since Cosopt PF may cause temporary blurred vision or eye irritation, avoid driving or doing any other activities that require clear vision until you know how the medication affects you. If you normally wear contact lenses, remove them before applying the eye drops and leave them out for at least 15 minutes.
