About Taztia Xt

What is Taztia XT?

A calcium channel blocker, Taztia XT is a once-a-day, extended-release branded generic of the brand Tiazac. The full generic is diltiazem, and it brings more oxygenated blood to the heart and relaxes blood vessels, ensuring the heart does not have to work too hard. Taztia XT also affects the amount of calcium in your heart and muscle cells. It can be used concomitantly with other medications, and is most often prescribed to treat stable angina and high blood pressure. You doctor may prescribe Taztia XT for other things.

How do I take Taztia XT?

Read the included information packet and always follow your doctor's instructions. Take 1 pill daily by mouth at the same time every day, and food may help diminish any stomach discomfort. Do not stop taking Taztia XT without direction from your doctor, and always continue taking your medication even if you feel well.

Do not crush, cut, or chew your pills, as this will release too much medication at the same time. If you have problems swallowing your pill, you may open the capsule carefully and sprinkle the whole dose over a spoonful (no more or less) of cool applesauce which you can swallow at once without chewing. Follow this with a glass of water.

What if I forget to take a dose of Taztia XT?

You may take the missed dose as soon as you remember it, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. If it is, skip the missed dose and maintain your regular dosing regimen. Never take 2 doses at once or any extra Taztia XT to make up for the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose on Taztia XT?

Call your local poison control center or seek medical attention immediately. Signs of an overdose include: difficulty breathing especially while lying down, lightheadedness especially while standing, feeling faint or like you may pass out, fainting or otherwise losing consciousness, drowsiness or dizziness, unusual weakness, unusual confusion, sluggish heart rate.

Before taking Taztia XT, tell your doctor if:

  • You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

  • You have a history of or currently or recently experienced heart problems or disease, such as a heart attack accompanied by lung congestion, low blood pressure, or heart failure.

  • You have a pacemaker or are taking any other heart medications.

  • You are about to have surgery, including dental surgery.

  • You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications, supplements, or vitamins, especially erythromycin. A number of medications may interact with your Taztia XT.

  • You have any medical or food allergies.

  • You have a history of or are currently experiencing liver or kidney disorders or disease.

  • You have any gastrointestinal problems or disorders.

What are the possible side effects of taking Taztia XT?

Common side effects of this medication only need a doctor's attention if they are prolonged or get worse. They include: weakness, tiredness, headache, lightheadedness or dizziness, flushing of the face, constipation.

Some severe side effects need immediate medical attention, including but not limited to: allergic reactions (hives, itching, tightness in the chest or a difficulty breathing or swallowing, or swelling of the hands, feet, lips, or tongue); swollen or blistered and reddened skin; swollen feet, ankle, hands or wrists; unusual bruising or bleeding; tender or swollen and bleeding gums; vision changes; hallucinations; persistent or unusual tiredness and weakness; a change in heart rate or an irregular heartbeat; chest pain; severe and persistent dizziness; fainting; shortness of breath; nausea and vomiting; sudden changes in weight; mental, emotional, or personality changes; signs of liver distress (e.g., yellowing of the skin or eyes, pale stool, dark urine).

How do I store Taztia XT?

Do not store Taztia XT in the bathroom. It can be stored at room temperature away from heat, light, moisture, and should be out of the reach of children.

Do not take Taztia XT if you have a pacemaker or if you are taking erythromycin.

It is important that emergency care and hospital professionals know you are on this medication. Tell your dentist you are taking this medication before you have any dental surgery.

A side effect of this medication is drowsiness; do not drive or perform other potentially hazardous activities until you know how you will react to this medication. Exercise, hot weather, fever or drinking alcohol will make certain side effects like drowsiness and lightheadedness worse, so use caution under these circumstances.

Taztia XT may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight and thus sunburn quite easily. Use suntan lotion or protective clothing and avoid tanning lamps, tanning booths, or extended periods in the sun until you know how you will react to this medication.

Continue taking your medication even if you feel run down or tired within the first few weeks of taking Taztia XT. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have concerns.

Lab tests will be done regularly to test your blood pressure and overall condition as well as for side effects. Always be sure to go to every lab or doctor appointment.

If you become pregnant while taking Taztia XT, talk to your doctor about how best to proceed and the pros and cons of continuing this medication. Additionally, this medication can be found in breast milk, so do not breastfeed while on Taztia XT.

“I have been able to afford and purchase my prescribed medications for prices much better than using my insurance. I am trying to understand how that is possible. Anyway, I highly recommend”
