What is Lasix?

Lasix is a prescription diuretic that increases the amount of urine discharged from the body in order to remove excess water and salts. The Lasix drug is used to help treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and swelling due to fluid retention caused by several medical conditions including liver, kidney, and cardiovascular disease.

How do I take Lasix?

Lasix medication is prescribed in 20, 40, and 80mg tablets. Lasix is delivered orally in pill form, once or twice a day depending on the prescription. It is advisable to take this medication with liquid. Your doctor may also advise changes to your diet to help with controlling blood pressure.

What if I forget to take a dose of Lasix?

If you forget to take your scheduled dose of Lasix medication, take it as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is within six hours of your next dose, skip the missed Lasix pill, and resume the normal schedule. Do not take multiple doses of this medication to make up for a missed one.

What happens if I overdose on Lasix?

If you experience any of these and they persist or worsen, contact your healthcare professional.

Some Lasix side effects may be severe and require immediate medical attention. These symptoms include signs of an allergic reaction (swelling of the lips, tongue, mouth, or throat; difficulty swallowing or breathing; rash; itching); tinnitus, fever, sudden and extreme weight loss, sore throat, or unusual bruising or bleeding. In addition, if you experience any unusual symptoms you think may be related to your Lasix medication, contact your doctor.
