About Harvoni

What is Harvoni?

Harvoni is a new specialty drug that is used to treat and cure hepatitis C. Harvoni contains two antiviral medications called ledipasvir and sofosbuvir. A one-month supply of Harvoni has a price around $32000, and this cost will more or less double for every month that it needs to be taken. Harvoni works by targeting a specific protein and RNA that the virus requires for replication. By inhibiting this replication, the viral infection is destroyed. This medication does not affect human DNA or RNA replication

How do I take Harvoni?

Harvoni should be taken once daily at the same time every day. Follow your doctor’s instructions for your individual requirements. Some people may only require an 8-week treatment with Harvoni while others with cirrhosis that have tried other treatments that have failed may require courses up to 12-weeks.

What if I forget to take a dose of Harvoni?

If you miss a dose of Harvoni, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular schedule.

What happens if I overdose on Harvoni?

Because Harvoni is a new drug, there isn’t much information available on overdose. Overdose on antivirals can cause a slow heart rate, delirium and seizures. Harvoni drug side effects are usually mild. Common side effects include headache, fatigue, nausea and diarrhea. Insomnia was another reported but uncommon side effect. If you experience any strange or severe side effects, tell your doctor immediately.

How do I store Harvoni?

Store Harvoni tightly closed in its container at a room temperature below 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not allow it to freeze. Keep this medication away from children and pets.

Warnings
