About Acular

What is Acular?

Acular is the drug ketorolac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) prescribed to treat allergy-related itchy eyes as well as treating swelling and redness following cataract or corneal refractive surgery. It works by blocking the substances that cause inflammation and itching.

How do I take Acular?

Acular is an ophthalmic solution for topical application to the eye(s). If prescribed for allergy-related symptoms, one drop is instilled into the affected eye four times a day. If being used following cataract surgery, one drop is instilled into the affected eye four times daily beginning 24 hours after surgery and continuing for no more than two weeks. Follow the instillation instructions that accompanied the prescription or have your healthcare provider demonstrate how to use the Acular drops. Continue using this medication until your doctor directs you to stop.

What if I forget to take a dose of Acular?

If you forget to instill your scheduled dose of Acular, do so as soon as your remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next one scheduled, skip the one missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the amount instilled or change the regimen to make up for one that was missed.

What happens if I overdose on Acular?

Acular is for external use only. If it is accidentally ingested, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, call Emergency Services at 911.
