How do I take Oracea?

Oracea is prescribed in 40mg capsules to be taken orally, typically twice daily or according to the directives of the doctor, with a full glass of water. If Oracea causes an upset stomach, it can be taken with milk or food, but doing so may inhibit the amount of medication absorbed. If this medication has been prescribed to prevent malaria, begin taking it one or two days prior to travelling to the area where contracting a malarial infection is possible.

What if I forget to take a dose of Oracea?

Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include symptoms of an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, hives or a rash, or swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue, throat, or face); severe headache; symptoms of jaundice; blurred vision; vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain or an upset stomach; changes in urine or frequency of urination; dizziness or confusion; and sudden or extreme weakness or tiredness.

Keep Oracea in its original container, away from the extremes of temperature and humidity and out of the reach of children. Dispose of any expired or unused capsules according to the directions of your pharmacist.

Warnings

Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight while taking Oracea. Inform your doctor if you become pregnant while taking this medication. Oracea, when taken during pregnancy, or administered to children ages eight and under, may cause permanent staining of infants’ or children’s teeth.
