About Nora-Be

Nora-Be contains norethindrone, a form of the female hormone progestin. It helps prevent pregnancy by causing cervical mucus to thicken and making the uterine lining less hospitable for a fertilized egg. It may also stop ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovaries), but this typically only occurs in about 50% of menstrual cycles. Because it doesn’t consistently stop ovulation, it isn’t as effective as birth control pills that contain an estrogen and a progestin. It is sometimes prescribed to women who can’t take estrogen-containing drugs.

Take one pill per day at the same time every day, going in the order the pills appear in the Nora-Be packet. If you’re just beginning to take this hormonal birth control, take the first pill on the first day of your period. If you find that this medication upsets your stomach or makes you nauseated, you may be able to minimize these side effects by taking your pill shortly before going to bed. It’s very important to stick to a regular schedule when taking Nora-Be—missing doses or taking your pills on an erratic schedule may increase your chances of becoming pregnant.

Follow the instructions on your prescription label if you miss a dose of Nora-Be. You may need to use a backup form of birth control, such as condoms, after missing a dose. If you find it hard to remember to take Nora-Be pills daily, discuss other birth control options with your doctor.

Overdosing on Nora-Be may cause sudden vaginal bleeding, severe nausea, and vomiting. Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 right away if you or someone in your home has overdosed. If the overdose symptoms are severe, go to the nearest emergency room.

Before taking Nora-Be, tell your doctor if:

· You think you may be pregnant or you have recently had an incomplete miscarriage or abortion

· You are breastfeeding

· You are allergic to norethindrone

· You are taking any other medications, vitamins, or supplements

· You have a history of blood clot, stroke, or circulation problems

· You have abnormal vaginal bleeding

· You have high blood pressure or heart problems

· You have liver or kidney problems

· You have asthma

· You have high cholesterol or triglycerides

· You have a history of mental illness

· You have asthma

· You have a seizure disorder

You may experience light vaginal bleeding between periods when you first begin taking Nora-Be. You may also experience side effects such as breast tenderness, weight changes, bloating, nausea, vomiting, and headaches. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, or if you miss two or more periods in a row after you start taking this medication, contact your doctor. Tell your doctor as soon as possible if you have any serious side effects, including breast lumps, unusual mental or mood changes, severe stomach or abdominal pain, unusually heavy menstrual bleeding, dark urine, or jaundice. Get medical help right away if you have any signs of a blood clot.

Store your Nora-Be packets at room temperature, out of the reach of children and pets. Do not expose your medication to bright light, high heat, or moisture.

Warnings

Don’t smoke while taking Nora-Be, as this raises your risk of heart attack, stroke, and blood clots. Keep in mind that while this hormonal drug can help prevent pregnancy, it won’t stop the transmission of STDs.

Brand Names

Nora-Be is a branded generic alternative to the branded drug Nor-Qd. Other branded generics that contain norethindrone include Heather, Camila, and Deblitane. Discuss your birth control options with your doctor, and remember to get a FamilyWize coupon for Nora-Be or any other medication you need.

“I have been able to afford and purchase my prescribed medications for prices much better than using my insurance. I am trying to understand how that is possible. Anyway, I highly recommend”
