About Heather

What is Heather?

Heather is a brand name, progestin-only oral contraceptive (or birth control pill) that is used to prevent pregnancy. Heather contains progestin, a female hormone, and this medication works by preventing ovulation from occurring. It also works by causing changes to the uterine lining and cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

How do I use Heather?

Follow all directions on your prescription label carefully and take Heather tablets exactly as directed by your doctor.

Heather comes in a pack of 28 pills. Take the first pill on the first day of your period, and continue to take one pill daily at the same time every day. When the pack of pills runs out, start a new pack.

This medication is safe for use by breast-feeding mothers.

Take the missed dose of Heather as soon as you remember it, and return to taking Heather at the same time you usually take it. If you take a dose of Heather more than 3 hours late, be sure to use a backup method of birth control for the next 48 hours. If you are not sure what to do about the pills you have missed, keep taking Heather and use a backup method of birth control, and consult with your doctor.
