About Indapamide

Indapamide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that acts to prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which causes water retention. This medication is prescribed for the treatment of edema in people with congestive heart failure, as well as to treat hypertension.

This medication is usually taken once daily in the morning. Follow your doctor’s dosing instructions carefully.

You should take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip it if it’s almost time for your next scheduled dosage. Don’t take any extra medication to make up for a missed dose.

You should seek emergency medical attention immediately or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 if you or someone in your home overdoses on indapamide. Symptoms of an overdose can include vomiting, weakness, dizziness, dry mouth, thirst, muscle pain, and weakness.

Before taking indapamide, tell your doctor if:

· You have cirrhosis or other liver disease

· You have kidney disease

· You have low levels of potassium or sodium in your blood

· You have gout, diabetes, or lupus

· You are on a low-salt diet

· You are unable to urinate

· You are allergic to sulfa drugs

· You are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medications

· You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning a pregnancy

Common indapamide side effects may include dizziness, weakness, tiredness, back pain, muscle cramps, anxiousness or agitation, headache, or runny nose. Call your doctor immediate if you have any signs of an electrolyte balance such as drowsiness, leg cramps, muscle weakness, fast or irregular heartbeats, numbness, or tingling, vomiting, constipation, headache, dry mouth, or little to no urination. There may be additional symptoms of an electrolyte imbalance that you should discuss with your doctor.

Store indapamide at room temperature away from sources of moisture, heat, and light. Keep the bottle closed tightly when not using it.

Warnings

Do not take this medication if you are allergic to sulfa medications or if you cannot urinate.
