About Chlorthalidone

What is chlorthalidone?

Chlorthalidone is a diuretic. It works by increasing the amount of urine passed through the body, causing it to lose excess salt and water. Chlorthalidone reduces extra salt and water in the body that is brought on by conditions like heart failure, liver disease, and kidney disease. It helps to decrease swelling referred to as edema and breathing problems brought on by fluid in the lungs. Chlorthalidone also helps relax blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. It is used to treat high blood pressure and edema, also known as the swelling of tissues in the body. Chlorthalidone has also been used to prevent kidney stones in patients with high levels of calcium in their blood. Additionally, this medication can be used to treat diabetes insipidus and certain electrolyte upsets.

How do I take chlorthalidone?

Chlorthalidone comes in tablet form and should be taken orally.
