Use this medication as your doctor recommends. Follow the instructions on the label. You can take it with or without food. Don’t stop taking this medication suddenly, as this can increase risk of side effects such as seizures.

· You have a history of underactive thyroid, liver or kidney problems, heart problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, esophageal inflammation, stomach problems, bowel problems, or mental issues

· You’ve recently had tuberculosis

Common side effects include aggression, anxiety, blurred vision, decreased urination, dizziness, dry mouth, irregular heartbeat or pulse, headache, irritability, depression, mood changes, nervousness, noisy, rattling breathing, numbness or tingling in arms or legs, pounding in the arms, restlessness, shaking, swelling of limbs or fingers, trouble thinking, speaking, or walking, restlessness, shaking, swelling of limbs or extremities, insomnia, or weight gain. There may have additional side effects which you can discuss with your doctor.

You should store this medication at room temperature, away from sources of heat, moisture, and light. Don’t keep it in the bathroom, and always store it away from children and pets.

Warnings

Cortef can cause dizziness, which can increase with alcohol and other medications. Use caution when taking it and perform tasks carefully. This medication may inhibit your body’s natural ability to fight infection; avoid people who are sick or have infections. Don’t receive a live vaccine while taking this medication. This medication can cause an increase in blood sugar, so diabetes patients should monitor their glucose carefully and may need to adjust other prescriptions. Cortef can also cause an increase in blood pressure, salt, and water retention, as well as calcium and potassium loss. Talk to your doctor about resolving these imbalances.
