About Bidil

What is BiDil?

BiDil contains two vasodilator drugs: hydralazine and isosorbide dinitrate. These drugs work together to relax and expand your blood vessels so that blood can flow to your heart more easily, reducing your risk for future heart failure. The BiDil medicine is sometimes used alongside other heart failure medications.

How do I take BiDil?

Take BiDil by mouth three times a day, unless your doctor has given you other dosage instructions. It is best to take this medication at the same time every day so you are less likely to forget. Do not stop using the BiDil drug without first talking to your doctor.

What if I forget to take a dose of BiDil?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for the next dose. In this situation, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosage schedule. Do not increase your normal dosage of BiDil to catch up.

What happens if I overdose on BiDil?

Overdosing on BiDil can cause serious side effects, including severe nausea, vomiting, cold or clammy skin, discolored fingers or toes, sweating, vision changes, a slow heartbeat, and pain in the jaw, chest, or left arm. If you or anyone in your household overdoses, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 and seek emergency medical attention.

Before taking BiDil, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medication, or you have any other allergies

  • You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements, especially drugs to treat erectile dysfunction or pulmonary hypertension

  • You have a history of other heart problems

  • You have had a stroke

  • You have blood vessel problems or low blood pressure

  • You frequently experience dehydration

  • You have anemia

  • You have kidney problems

  • You have recently experienced a head injury

  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of taking BiDil?

Dizziness, headache, nausea, and flushing are some of the most commonly reported BiDil drug side effects. Most people who experience these side effects find they go away as their body adjusts to the medication, but let your doctor know if any of your side effects persist or worsen. Contact your doctor right away if you experience any of the following rare but serious side effects: numbness or tingling sensations, unusual fatigue, butterfly-shaped rash on face, painful joints, swollen glands, change in amount or color of urine, easy bruising or bleeding, an irregular heartbeat, signs of infection, or fainting. Get emergency medical attention if you notice pain in your jaw, chest, or left arm.

How do I store BiDil?

Keep the BiDil in a tightly sealed container at room temperature, away from moisture and light. Keep BiDil out of reach of pets and children, and if you need to dispose of unused tablets, talk to your pharmacist about how to safely do so.

Warnings

Because the BiDil medicine can cause dizziness, avoid driving or performing other tasks that require alertness until you know how the drug affects you. Stand up slowly from a sitting or lying position to reduce the risk of lightheadedness. You should also limit your alcohol consumption while using this medication.

Brand Name

BiDil is only available as a brand name drug; there is no cheaper generic alternative. If your doctor decides this is the best heart failure medication for you but it is not covered by your insurance, use a FamilyWize BiDil coupon to reduce the cost by up to 75%. Our coupons are accepted at most pharmacies nationwide.
