Xtampza ER comes as a capsule that is taken orally with water. It is typically administered twice a day in twelve hour intervals with food; always eat the same amount of food with every dose. If you are having difficulty swallowing the capsules, or have a feeding tube, discuss an alternative dosing method with your doctor.

If you forget to take a scheduled dose of Xtampza ER, do so as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, do not take the one missed – simply resume the regular schedule. Do not take multiple doses or alter the dosing regimen to compensate for a missed dose.

If an overdose of the Xtampza ER drug occurs, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 or Emergency Services at 911. Overdose symptoms may include loss of consciousness, breathing problems, extreme tiredness or sleepiness, difficulty staying awake, blue skin under fingernails or around the mouth or lips, appetite loss, cold or clammy skin, dizziness, fainting, flu-like symptoms, limp or weak muscles, constricted or dilated pupils, nausea, pain in the upper right part of the stomach, slowed heartbeat, sweating, unusual bleeding or bruising, vomiting, and yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Before taking Xtampza ER, tell your doctor if:

• You are allergic to oxycodone or any of the ingredients in the Xtampza ER drug

• You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child

• You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements

• You have asthma or other breathing difficulties

• You have lung disease

• You have Addison’s disease

• You have glaucoma

• You have kyphoscoliosis

• You have hypotension

• You have had a head injury or seizures

• You have, or have had, pancreas, liver, kidney, thyroid, or gall bladder disease

• You have, or have had, paralytic ileitis, a stomach or intestinal blockage, a urethral stricture, diverticulitis, problems swallowing, esophageal cancer, or colon cancer

Side effects have been reported by some who have taken Xtampza ER. You should monitor mild symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, flushed skin, headache, loss of appetite, mood changes, nausea, stomach pain, sweating, vomiting, or weakness and seek help if they persist or worsen. Severe side effects such as chest pain, seizures, loss of consciousness, signs of an allergic reaction, extreme drowsiness, or an irregular, slow, or rapid heartbeat require immediate medical attention.

Store the Xtampza ER capsules in their original container, out of the reach of children and away from excessive heat and humidity; do not keep them in the bathroom. Because of the potential for abuse, keep a count of the capsules and a record of when they were taken. Discuss with your pharmacist the proper method for disposing of unused or expired capsules.

Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while taking Xtampza ER. This medication may make you drowsy or sleepy; do not drive, operate heavy machinery, use power tools, or handle firearms or explosives until its effects are known. Drinking alcohol while taking this medication can intensify and worsen the side effects. Xtampza ER has the potential for abuse and can be habit-forming. This medication may cause life-threatening breathing difficulties.
