Octreotide is a generic octapeptide and it is administered by either an immediate-release injection or a long-acting injection.

Octreotide long-acting injection is used in patients who have been successfully treated with Octreotide immediate-release injection but prefer to receive injections less often.

How do I use Octreotide?

Octreotide long-acting injections are typically administered by a healthcare professional and injected 1 time every 4 weeks.

Octreotide immediate-release injections are typically injected using the syringe that comes with the medication, under the skin or into a vein, and it is typically prescribed to be taken 2 to 4 times per day. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully for using this medication.

What if I forget to use a dose of Octreotide?

Inject your missed dose of Octreotide as soon as your remember to take it, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dose schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

If you missed your appointment to receive the long-acting Octreotide injection, contact your doctor to reschedule your appointment.

What happens if I overdose on Octreotide?

How do I store Octreotide?

The long-acting Octreotide injections and immediate-release Octreotide injections should both be stored in the original packing it came in, in the refrigerator, away from light. The immediate-release injections may also be stored at room temperature for up to 14 days. Discard of any expired, unused medication or medication that is no longer needed. Discard multi-dose vials of the immediate-release Octreotide injections 14 days after you used the first dose.
