About Nasonex

What is Nasonex?

Nasonex Nasal Spray is a man-made, corticosteroid medication that is used to treat symptoms of both seasonal and year-round allergies. The spray also treats nasal congestion that is associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis. Nasonex is used not only to treat symptoms, but to prevent them as well. Nasonex is also used to treat nasal polyps in people 18 years and older. This medication comes in a manual pump spray form that contains an aqueous suspension.

How do I take Nasonex?

Use our coupon for Nasonex to fill your prescription in your local pharmacy at a low price. Nasonex should be used exactly as prescribed by your doctor and is intended for use in the nose only. Do not spray it into your mouth or eyes. Nasonex should be used regularly at the same time each day without missing a dose. A typical dose for treatment of the nasal symptoms of seasonal allergies or allergic rhinitis is 2 sprays in each nostril once daily.

What if I forget to take a dose of Nasonex?

If you miss a dose of Nasonex, use it as soon as you remember. Do not double or take more than the daily dose prescribed by your doctor.

What happens if I overdose on Nasonex?

Currently there is no data available on the effects of acute or chronic overdosage on Nasonex Nasal Spray. Overdose is unlikely to require any therapy other than observation due to low systemic bioavailability, and an absence of acute drug-related systemic findings in clinical studies.

Before taking Nasonex, tell your doctor if:

  • You have had recent nasal sores, nasal surgery, or nasal injury

  • You have eye or vision problems, such as cataracts or glaucoma

  • You have tuberculosis or any untreated fungal, bacterial, viral infections, or eye infections, specifically caused by herpes

  • You have interacted with someone who has chicken pox or measles.

  • You are experiencing any other strange, potentially unrelated symptoms

  • You have any other medical conditions

  • You are pregnant or planning to become pregnant

  • You are breast-feeding

What are the possible side effects of taking Nasonex?

Some of the more common side effects experienced that you should mention to your doctor include: bloody mucus, unexplained nosebleeds, chills, flu-like symptoms, a cough or hoarseness, fever, headache, abdominal pain or cramping, irregular menstrual periods, muscle pain, or a stuffy or runny nose.

Other less common side effects that require immediate medical attention include: chest pain, discharge or redness in the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid, earache, shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, labored breathing, wheezing, vision changes, yeast infection inside the mouth, the development of sores inside the nose, or white patches inside the nose and/or mouth.

How do I store Nasonex?

Nasonex should be stored in container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature, away from light, and away from excess heat and moisture. The bottle should be thrown away or replaced approximately after 120 sprays. Discard any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Warnings

Nasonex in some studies has been linked the development of localized infections of the nose and pharynx with Candida albicans has occurred. Corticosteroids have an effect on wound healing, therefore patients who have experienced recent nasal septum ulcers, nasal surgery, or nasal trauma should wait until there are fully healed. Nasal corticosteroids have also been linked to the development of glaucoma and/or cataracts. Close monitoring is crucial in patients with any changes in vision or with a family history. Instances of nasal septum perforation have been reported with long-term topical treatment of the nasal cavity, and patients using corticosteroids over several months or longer should be examined periodically for possible changes.
