About Nasacort Aq

What is Nasacort AQ?

Nasacort AQ is in the corticosteroid class of drugs. It helps treat seasonal allergy symptoms, including nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes, nose, or throat. It works by reducing nasal passage inflammation.

How do I take Nasacort AQ?

Nasacort AQ comes as a nasal spray. Before using it, blow your nose. When you’re ready, shake the spray bottle, remove the cap, and spray into one nostril while closing the other with your finger. Gently inhale through your nose and exhale through the mouth. Repeat the process with your other nostril, using only as many squirts of the spray bottle as your doctor has prescribed.

What if I forget to take a dose of Nasacort AQ?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for another dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and get back to your normal schedule. Do not use more of the spray than you normally would in an effort to catch up.

What happens if I overdose on Nasacort AQ?

Overdosing on Nasacort AQ can be dangerous; if you have overdosed or suspect someone in your household has, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222 right away.

Before taking Nasacort AQ, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to this medication or you have any other allergies

  • You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements, especially prednisone

  • You have a history of eye problems

  • You have a history of infections or currently have a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection

  • You have recently gotten a vaccination

  • You have recently been exposed to someone with an infection (such as chickenpox or flu)

  • You have recently experienced nose problems (such as injuries or sores)

  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of taking Nasacort AQ?

Most people who take the Nasacort AQ drug do not experience serious side effects, but some people have reported nosebleeds, nose or throat irritation, coughing, sneezing, or a lingering unpleasant taste or smell. If you have any side effects that bother you, let your doctor know. Call your doctor right away if you experience any rare but serious side effects, including pain or sores in the nose, diminished taste or smell, extreme fatigue, headache, swollen feet or ankles, weight loss, vision problems, or increased thirst or urination. You should also tell your doctor if you notice any signs of an infection.

How do I store Nasacort AQ?

Keep the cap tightly sealed on the Nasacort AQ spray bottle when not using this medicine. Store the Nasacort AQ drug at room temperature, away from bright light, heat, and moisture. Keep the spray bottle out of reach of pets and children. If you no longer need this prescription spray or it has expired, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of it.

Warnings

Do not spray Nasacort AQ anywhere other than your nostrils, and avoid directly spraying the nasal wall between your nostrils. If you accidentally get some of the spray in your eyes, flush your eyes out with tap water. Corticosteroids can make you more susceptible to infections, so avoid anyone with an infection (such as chickenpox or shingles) while using Nasacort AQ. This medication also may affect the way your body responds to physical stress, so tell your doctor if you will be having surgery.
