About Lomaira

Lomaira contains a low dose (8mg) of phentermine, a sympathomimetic drug that suppresses appetite. It may be prescribed to adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, or a BMI of 27 or more with at least one weight-related medical condition, to decrease appetite and promote weight loss. This medication is only recommended for a short treatment period.

The recommended dose of Lomaira is one tablet three times a day, about half an hour before meals. Tablets are scored and may be split in half if your doctor recommends a smaller dose. Follow your doctor’s dosing instructions carefully. You should also follow your doctor’s recommendations for exercise, diet, and behavioral changes.

Take your missed dose once you remember, unless it’s close to your bedtime or almost time for your next dose. In these cases, skip the missed dose and resume your normal schedule. Taking Lomaira in the late evening may increase your likelihood of experiencing insomnia.

Overdosing on Lomaira may cause some of the severe side effects listed above. If you think that you or someone in your home has overdosed, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.

Before taking Lomaira, tell your doctor if:

You are allergic to this or any other medications
You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements
You have used an MAOI drug within the past two weeks
You have a history of substance abuse
You have high blood pressure
You have any heart problems
You have hyperthyroidism
You have glaucoma
You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning a pregnancy

Mild side effects of Lomaira may include constipation, dry mouth, redness or itching of the skin, an unpleasant taste in the mouth, or decreased sexual interest and performance. If you have any side effects that last a long time or are bothersome, tell your doctor. Get medical help immediately if you experience chest pain, an irregular heart rate, severe dizziness, fainting, tingling in your arms or legs, swelling in your feet or lower legs, difficulty breathing, weakness, or difficulty speaking or moving.

Keep Lomaira in a tightly-sealed container and store it at room temperature. Because this medication may be a target for abuse, store it somewhere secure (such as a locked cabinet) to reduce the risk of theft.

Lomaira is chemically related to amphetamines, which can be addictive. Only take this medicine for as long as your doctor has instructed you to (usually no more than a couple of weeks). Do not take Lomaira if you’re pregnant or currently taking any other weight loss drugs. Lomaira may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so don’t drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how the medication affects you.
