Lidocaine prilocaine cream is a local anesthetic that works by blocking nerves from transmitting painful impulses to your brain. It is prescribed to relieve pain for normal skin and numbing skin to pain from injections and other medical procedures.

Use this medication as directed by your physician. Check the medicine for your dosing instructions. Wash and dry the affected area before treatment. Apply a thick layer of cream to the affected skin, but don’t rub it in. Wash your hands immediately after use.

You should use the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule. Don’t use two doses on your skin at once.

If you suspect an overdose, contact emergency care immediately or call the American Association of Poison Control Centers at 1-800-222-1222.
