What happens if I overdose on lansoprazole?

The effects of overdose on lansoprazole in humans are not known (although the acute toxicity is likely to be low). Daily doses of up to 180mg of lansoprazole orally and up to 90mg intravenously have been administered in trials without significant undesirable effects.

In the case of suspected overdose the patient should be monitored. If necessary, gastric emptying, charcoal and symptomatic therapy is recommended.   • You are allergic to lansoprazole.

  • You have low levels of magnesium in your blood, or if you have a liver disease.

  • You have had heartburn has lasted longer than 3 months, you have experienced dizziness, chest or shoulder pain, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing food, or black or bloody stools.

  • You take antibiotics, blood thinners, diuretics, iron supplements, or methotrexate.

What are the possible side effects of taking lansoprazole?

Common side effects from taking lansoprazole include constipation, nausea, headache, dizziness, rash, blistering or peeling skin, allergic reaction, difficulty breathing or swallowing, hoarseness, lightheadedness, muscle spasms, seizures, severe diarrhea, stomach pain or fever. Contact your doctor right away if you experience any serious side effects.

How do I store lansoprazole?

Store lansoprazole at room temperature in a cool, dry place. Keep this medication tightly closed in a moisture-proof container. Protect it from light and keep it away from children and pets. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.

Warnings

Lansoprazole can take several days before your stomach pain gets better. Check with your doctor or health care professional if your condition does not start to get better, or if it gets worse. Do not treat diarrhea with over the counter products. Contact your doctor if you have diarrhea that lasts more than 2 days or if it is severe and watery.
