About Intuniv

This medicine is an alpha agonist used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. An additional patient information leaflet is available with this medicine. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this information. SWALLOW WHOLE. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. DO NOT TAKE it with a high-fat meal. TAKE THIS MEDICINE with water, milk, or other liquid. If you are switching to this medicine from immediate-release guanfacine, talk with your doctor about how you should stop taking the immediate release tablets and start taking this medicine. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. DO NOT SUDDENLY STOP TAKING THIS MEDICINE. You may have an increased risk of side effects. If you need to stop this medicine, your doctor will gradually lower your dose. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once. IF YOU MISS MORE THAN 1 DOSE, contact your doctor.

IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include pinpoint pupils; severe or persistent dizziness, drowsiness, or sluggishness; slow heartbeat.

Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking another medicine that contains guanfacine. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking tizanidine, medicines for high blood pressure, ketoconazole, rifampin, barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), benzodiazepines (eg, diazepam), phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine), or valproic acid. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including if you have a history of low blood pressure, dizziness when you stand up, heart problems (eg, heart block, slow or irregular heartbeat), fainting, liver or kidney problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you are dehydrated or will be exposed to high temperatures or if you are taking medicine for high blood pressure. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include constipation; decreased appetite; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; irritability; nausea; sluggishness; stomach pain; tiredness; or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience fainting; severe or persistent dizziness, drowsiness, or weakness; or slow or irregular heartbeat. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue.
