The following should get Havrix:

• All children 12 through 23 months of age. Anyone 1 year of age and older traveling to or working in countries with high or intermediate prevalence of hepatitis A

• Children and adolescents 2 through 18 years of age who live in areas where there is a high incidence of hepatitis A

• People with chronic liver disease

• People treated with clotting factor concentrates

• Unvaccinated children or adolescents in areas where hepatitis A outbreaks are occurring

• Unvaccinated people who have been exposed to hepatitis A virus

• People who work with HAV-infected primates or who work with HAV in research laboratories.

• People in households planning to adopt a child from a country where hepatitis A is common

If you have a severe allergic reaction to Havrix, contact your doctor immediately.

Before using Havrix, tell your doctor if:

• you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to Havrix, as you should not get another dose.

• you have any severe allergies, including a severe allergy to latex. All hepatitis A vaccines contain alum, and some hepatitis A vaccines contain 2-phenoxyethanol.

• if you are moderately or severely ill at the time the shot is administered.

• if you are pregnant. Because hepatitis A vaccine is inactivated (killed), the risk to a pregnant woman or her unborn baby is believed to be very low. Your doctor can weigh any theoretical risk from the vaccine against the need for protection.

The following side effects may be caused by using Havrix and typically last 1 to 2 days if they occur:

• soreness where the shot was given

• headache

• loss of appetite

• fatigue

• Any unusual condition, such as a high fever or unusual behavior.

• Signs of a serious allergic reaction can include difficulty breathing, hives, paleness, weakness, hoarseness or wheezing, faster heartbeat, or dizziness.

Very rarely, a serious allergic reaction may occur upon receiving the shot.

Contact your doctor immediately if any of the following symptoms occur:

• soreness where the shot was given

• headache

• loss of appetite

• fatigue

• Any unusual condition, such as a high fever or unusual behavior.

• Signs of a serious allergic reaction can include difficulty breathing, hives, paleness, weakness, hoarseness or wheezing, faster heartbeat, or dizziness.

There is no need for you to store Havrix, as your doctor will administer the vaccine to you.

Warnings

Call your doctor right away if you experience any of these symptoms after taking Havrix:

• Any unusual condition, such as a high fever or unusual behavior

• Signs of a serious allergic reaction that may include: difficulty breathing, hoarseness or wheezing, hives, paleness, weakness, a fast heartbeat, or dizziness.
