About Gelnique

What is Gelnique?

Gelnique contains a drug called oxybutynin that reduces the urge to urinate by relaxing smooth muscle tissue in the bladder. When applied topically, this medication is absorbed into the bloodstream. Bladder spasms are reduced, and so is the urge to urinate.

How do I apply Gelnique?

Gelnique is made in the form of a gel. It should be applied topically to the thigh, upper arm, abdomen or shoulder once daily at the same time every day, or as per your doctor’s instructions. The application site for this medication should be rotated. For example, if you apply Gelnique to your abdomen on the first day, apply it to your thigh the second day and so on. Wash and dry the area before you apply your medication. Apply the entire packet immediately after opening and rub in the medication until it is absorbed. Avoid getting the area wet until at least one hour has passed after applying Gelnique.

What if I forget to apply a dose of Gelnique?

If you forget to apply your dose of Gelnique, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular routine. Do not apply two doses of Gelnique to compensate for a missed one.

What happens if I overdose on Gelnique?

Signs of Gelnique drug overdose include feelings of excitement or restlessness, hot and dry skin, vomiting, fever, uneven heart rate, thirst and urinating very little, if at all.
