About Follistim

This medicine is a gonadotropin (human follicle stimulating hormone / hFSH) used to increase the chance of ovulation and/or pregnancy in certain women. It is also used to increase sperm production in certain men. This medicine may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. AN ADDITIONAL PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET is available with this medicine. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. This medicine is usually administered as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. IF YOU ARE USING THIS MEDICINE AT HOME, a healthcare professional will provide detailed instructions for its appropriate use. Ask them any questions that you may have about your medicine or giving injections. If the medicine contains particles, is cloudy or discolored, or if the vial or cartridge is cracked or damaged in any way, do not use it. AFTER GIVING THE INJECTION, cover the injection site with a small bandage, if necessary. STORE THIS MEDICINE between 34 and 46 degrees F (2 and 8 degrees C) until the expiration date. It may also be stored at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) for 3 months or until the expiration date, whichever occurs first. FOR CARTRIDGES: Once the rubber stopper of the cartridge has been pierced by a needle, the product can only be stored for a maximum of 28 days between 36 and 77 degrees F (2 and 25 degrees C). FOR VIALS: Discard any unused medicine remaining in the vial after use. STORE AWAY FROM heat, moisture, and light. Do not freeze. Do not store in the bathroom. KEEP THIS PRODUCT, as well as syringes and needles, out of the reach of children and pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, contact your doctor for instructions.

IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include decreased urination; diarrhea; nausea; severe stomach pain or swelling; shortness of breath; sudden, unexplained weight gain; or vomiting.

Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including fallopian tube problems, polycystic ovary disease, an increased risk for blood clots, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have had stomach or abdominal surgery, growths or cysts in your ovary, or a twisting of the ovary (ovarian torsion). Tell your doctor if you have a personal or family history of blood clots or if you are very overweight. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have heavy or irregular vaginal bleeding of unknown cause; uncontrolled thyroid, pituitary, or adrenal gland problems; tumors of the breast, ovaries, uterus, testicles, hypothalamus, or pituitary gland; or enlarged ovaries or ovarian cysts not due to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you are pregnant, if your testicles are unable to produce sperm, or if your ovaries are unable to produce eggs. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include acne; breast enlargement or tenderness; headache; minor pain, bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site; mild stomach pain; nausea; stomach discomfort; or tiredness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience abnormal vaginal bleeding; severe or persistent pain, bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site; severe pelvic pain; or stomach pain or bloating. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur.
