About Fetzima

What is Fetzima?

Fetzima (levomilnacipran) is an extended-release selective serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SSNRI) utilized as a mood elevator in order to treat MDD in adults. It works by elevating the levels of the neurochemicals serotonin and norepinephrine actively used by the brain to create mental balance.

How do I take Fetzima?

Because this medication is extended release, it is taken as 1 pill 1 time daily either with or without food. Take your medication at the same time every day for the best efficacy. Never crush, chew, break, or open Fetzima capsules, as it will alter the way your medication is released.

What if I forget to take a dose of Fetzima?

Never take more or less than prescribed, and never take a double dose of medication to make up for a missed dose. Skip the missed dose if it's almost time for your next dose, otherwise you may take your medication as soon as you remember.

What happens if I overdose on Fetzima?

Symptoms of Fetzima drug overdose include: coma, dizziness, hallucinations (audible or visual), seizures or uncontrollable shaking in one part of the body, unsteady movements. If you suspect overdose, seek immediate emergency medical assistance or call your local poison control center.

Before taking Fetzima, tell your doctor if:

• You are pregnant or breastfeeding or plan to become pregnant or to breastfeed. • You have previously had suicidal ideations, especially if it was while taking another SSNRI. • You have recently taken or are currently taking MAOIs. • You have untreated/uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma. • You have any medical allergies, especially to levomilnacipran or milnacipran. • You have or have a history of bleeding disorders (e.g., hemophilia). • You have or have a history of seizure or disorders with seizure. • You regularly drink large amounts of alcohol or you are an alcoholic. • You have or have a history of kidney or heart disease or disorder, including heart rhythm disorders or high blood pressure. • You have or have a history of low sodium. • You have or have a history of bladder disease or disorder, including obstruction. • You regularly use or intend to use NSAID pain killers.

What are the possible side effects of taking Fetzima?

Some Fetzima drug side effects can be life threatening. Seek emergency medical assistance if you experience: allergic reaction, agitation, blurred vision or tunnel vision, unusual bruising or bleeding (especially from soft tissues like nose, mouth, rectum), bruises with pin pricks under your skin, loss of coordination, confusion, diarrhea, eye pain/swelling, fainting, fever, elevated heart rate, pounding heart beats, unusual or severe headache, hallucinations, fluttering feeling in your chest, unusual or persistent nausea and vomiting, overactive reflexes, slurred speech.

Warnings

Be aware: in some cases, taking any antidepressant, including Fetzima, can cause suicidal thoughts or actions. Be sure your friends, family, or caretakers know what to look for.

The generic form of Fetzima, levomilnacipran, is named similarly to a fibromyalgia medication. Always be sure you receive the correct medicine when you fill a prescription.

Suddenly discontinuing this medication can lead to uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. Discuss how to stop taking this medication with your doctor.

Do not drink alcohol while taking Fetzima, as it can raise the levels of this medication in your blood. This medication can impair your thinking and reactions. Do not perform potentially hazardous tasks until you know how you will react to it. For complete drug information and Fetzima patient assistance, please refer to your doctor or pharmacist.

Brand Names

The generic name of Fetzima is levomilnacipram, and there are no other brand names for this drug. It is important to note it should not be confused with a similarly named drug, a fibromyalgia medication called milnacipran. As an MDD medication with no generic, the retail cost of Fetzima gets pricy. We offer a free Fetzima coupon that works like a discount card and gets you up to 75% off. Simply click Claim Discount and print or download your free Fetzima discount card/coupon.
