About Femhrt

What is Femhrt?

Femhrt is a hormone replacement drug containing ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen) and norethindrone (a progestin). It is prescribed to menopausal women who still have a uterus to reduce hot flashes and vaginal irritation, and to prevent bones from weakening.

How do I take Femhrt?

Take Femhrt once daily, at the same time every day. Make sure to refill your prescription before you run out of tablets. You will need to check in with your doctor every three to six months to discuss the effectiveness of your treatment and perform your own monthly breast exams to make sure you have not developed any lumps.

What if I forget to take a dose of Femhrt?

If you miss a dose of your medication, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for another dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and resume your normal dosing schedule. Never double your dose to catch up.

What happens if I overdose on Femhrt?

If you or someone in your household has overdosed on Femhrt, call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) right away.

Before taking Femhrt, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to this or any other medications

  • You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements

  • You have had a hysterectomy

  • You have or have had breast or uterine cancer

  • You have unexplained vaginal bleeding

  • You have or have had problems with your liver, kidneys, heart, or thyroid

  • You have had a stroke or heart attack

  • You have or have had blood clots or circulation problems

  • You have any liver problems

  • You have a bleeding disorder

  • You have high levels of calcium in your blood

  • You have asthma

  • You have epilepsy

  • You frequently get migraine headaches

  • You have diabetes

  • You will need to be on bed rest for surgery or any other reason

  • You are breastfeeding or think you may be pregnant

What are the possible side effects of taking Femhrt?

Some of the most common side effects of Femhrt include headache, breast tenderness, ‘spotting’ (light vaginal bleeding), stomach cramps or bloating, vaginal yeast infections, and temporary hair loss. If you have any side effects that are bothersome, tell your doctor. Stop using the Femhrt drug and call your doctor immediately if you notice any breast lumps, sudden severe migraines, changes in speech or vision, severe chest or leg pain, or unusual vaginal bleeding.

How do I store Femhrt?

Keep Femhrt at room temperature (between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit), out of reach of children and pets. Do not store it in the bathroom, as high heat and humidity can negatively affect it. If you have unused or expired medication, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of it.

Warnings

Smoking while using hormone replacement drugs can increase your risk of heart attack, stroke, and blood clots, so don’t smoke while taking Femhrt. If you have any other risk factors for heart disease (such as high cholesterol or diabetes), talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of the Femhrt drug before you start using it.

Brand Name

Other brand name ethinyl estradiol/norethindrone combinations used to treat symptoms of menopause include Jevantique and Jinteli. “I have been able to afford and purchase my prescribed medications for prices much better than using my insurance. I am trying to understand how that is possible. Anyway, I highly recommend”
