About Constulose

What is Constulose?

Constulose is a brand drug that is prescribed to treat constipation and liver disease. It is a synthetic sugar that comes in liquid form.

Constulose works in patients with constipation to soften the stool. In patients with liver disease, Constulose works to reduce the amount of ammonia in the blood by pulling ammonia from the blood and into the colon, where it is expunged from the body.

How do I use Constulose?

Lactulose is available as a liquid and it is to be taken orally. If it is being used for treatment for constipation, Constulose is typically prescribed to be taken once daily. If it is being used for treatment of liver disease, Constulose is typically prescribed to be taken 3 or 4 times per day.

Your dose of constulose may be mixed with up to half of a glass of water, milk, or fruit juice to improve the taste of this medication.

Take Constulose exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on the packaging of your prescription.

What if I forget to use a dose of Constulose?

Take your missed dose of Constulose as soon as your remember to take it. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue to take the medication as prescribed. Do not take a double dose of Constulose.
