About Acetylcysteine

What is Acetylcysteine?

Acetylcysteine is a generic mucolytic agent that comes as a liquid solution that is inhaled using a nebulizer. This drug is typically used along with other treatments to relieve chest congestion. It is often prescribed to patients with lung conditions including bronchitis, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, and asthma. This drug is also sometimes used to treat patients who have overdosed on acetaminophen (such as Tylenol). This drug works by thinning the mucus, making it easier to expel mucus and clear air passages in the body.
