About Junel FE 1/20

What is Junel FE 1/20?

Junel FE 1/20 is a birth control drug containing two female hormones: ethinyl estradiol (an estrogen) and norethindrone acetate (a progestin). These hormones prevent ovulation, make vaginal fluid thicker, and change the lining of the uterus, all of which helps prevent pregnancy. In addition to preventing pregnancy, Junel Fe 1/20 may also be used to make periods lighter and more regular, reduce the risk of ovarian cysts, and decrease acne.

How do I take Junel FE 1/20?

If this is your first time using a form of hormonal birth control, follow the instructions that come with your prescription to determine when to take the first pill. Take one pill per day at the same time every day, following the order indicated in the packet. Each Junel Fe 1/20 packet contains 26 active pills: 24 with both estrogen and progestin and 2 with just estrogen. The last 2 are inactive (hormone-free) pills that contain a small amount of iron and serve as a reminder to stick to your dosing schedule. Once you have finished a pill packet, start a new one the next day.

What if I forget to take a dose of Junel FE 1/20?

Your missed dose instructions will depend on the number of doses you missed and where in the packet cycle the missed doses occurred. Follow the instructions on your prescription packaging carefully, and contact your doctor if you have any questions. If you miss more than 1 dose in a row, use a backup method of birth control (such as condoms) for at least 7 days.

What happens if I overdose on Junel FE 1/20?

Overdosing on hormonal birth control may cause severe nausea, vomiting, or sudden vaginal bleeding. If you have overdosed on Junel FE 1/20, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.

Serious side effects are rare but require medical attention when they occur.
