About Atralin

What is Atralin?

Atralin is a gel medication used to treat acne vulgaris. It contains a retinoid called tretinoin which works to reduce acne and clear up pimples that develop by increasing skin cell turnover.

How do I take Atralin?

Use our free Atralin coupon to reduce the cost in your pharmacy. Once you buy Atralin, wash your hands before applying and gently clean the affected skin with a mild cleanser and allow it to dry. It is best to wait 20-30 minutes before using your medication. Then, use your fingertips to apply a small, pea-sized amount to the area and then rub it in, creating an evenly distributed thin layer. This medication is usually applied once daily at bedtime. A gauze pad or cotton ball may also be used to apply the medication. Use this medication on the skin only. Do not get this medication near your eyes or mouth or in your nose. Do not apply to cut, scraped, sunburned, or infected skin. If this medication gets into your eyes, flush with large amounts of water. Wash your hands thoroughly after using Atralin.

During the first few weeks of using tretinoin, your acne might appear worse because the medication is working on pimples forming inside the skin. It may take up to 8-12 weeks to notice results from this medication. Use it regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Do not use a larger amount or use it more frequently than recommended. Your skin will not improve any faster, and it will increase the risk of developing redness, peeling and pain. Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

What if I forget to take a dose of Atralin?

Apply Atralin as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and wait until your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not apply extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose on Atralin?

Excessive use of Atralin could result in severe side effects. Report excessive use to your prescribing doctor at once. In case of accidental ingestion, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.

Before taking Atralin, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to Atralin or any of its ingredients.

  • You apply any type of sunscreen daily or are using tanning beds or sun booths.

  • You have recently used products containing sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid.

  • You have a skin infection or other skin problems, especially eczema.

What are the possible side effects of taking Atralin?

Common side effects include a sensation of warmth or stinging immediately after applying Atralin. Redness, dryness, itching, scaling, mild burning, may occur, especially at the beginning of treatment. An increase in breakouts may occur during the first 2-4 weeks of using the medication. These effects should decrease with continued use. More serious side effects include blistering, severe burning, swelling, and skin discoloration in the affected area. Call your doctor if you experience any severe or persistent side effects.

How do I store Atralin?

Store Atralin at room temperature. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not leave Atralin in heat or places exposed to extreme weather.

Warning

Do not use Atralin if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Avoid exposure to the sun and sun lamps.
